Director Sam Mendes and Kate Winslet were together for last seven years. They have a son Joe together, he is 6 years old. The news took celebrity watchers by surprise as there were no rumors of tensions between the couple until this announcement.
Kate and Mendes worked together in Revolutionary Road together last year. She praised his work and said, “We’re just there for each other”. But then 8 months is a long time, lot of things can happen. Winslet won critical praise and a Golden Globe for her role in “Revolutionary Road” in 2008. Interestingle, movie was a heart-wrenching story of a failed marriage.
Official statement of separation that was issued by lawyers for the couple goes like this: “Kate and Sam are saddened to announce that they separated earlier this year. The split is entirely amicable and is by mutual agreement. Both parties are fully committed to the future joint parenting of their children. They ask that the media respect the privacy of the family.” This statement was issued to UsMagazine.
This was second marriage for Winslet, 34. She was divorced from her first husband, assistant director Jim Threapleton in 2001, after three years. She had a daughter Mia, 9, from her first marriage. Both of them, Kate and Sam, have won Oscars: Kate for her role in “The Reader” and Mendes as a director for 1999 movie debut “American Beauty”.

Former Baywatch star will take part in the 10th season of the US reality show, in which she will work with a professional dancer to learn Latin and ballroom dances. Though a lot of people are skeptical about it and general opinion is that she is simply too big for dancing.
Anderson said that she signed up for the series to distract herself from her personal issues. my guess: she is talking of breakup with her boyfriend or it could be her financial troubles with contractor of her Californian mansion.
In her words, “I’m having the best time, this will keep me out of trouble. It’s stimulation, mentally, physically and emotionally. It has my focus and I’ve always wanted to learn how to dance. Maybe I’ll get in shape as well. This is a leap of faith. I’ll learn a life skill. I’m a romantic; I’m putting my heart into this.”
I will surely login to watch her in action and see if she has really taken the leap?

Kathryn Bigelow, Cameron’s ex-wife became the first woman to win best director award at Bafta. Not a small feat at all. Bigelow was confident and dismissed talk of a rivalry with Cameron, saying she was “real honored” to be nominated alongside her former husband. In her award acceptance speech she said: “I would like to dedicate this to never abandoning the need to find a resolution for peace”.

Along with Best Director award, Hurt Locker won the Best Movie award. On the other hand, Avatar only managed Best Production Design and Best Achievement In Special Visual Effects , not exactly higher tiered awards. The complete list goes as following:

Shutter Island” is the story of two U.S. marshals, Teddy Daniels (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Chuck Aule (Mark Ruffalo), who investigate the disappearance of a patient from a hospital for the criminally insane on an island in Massachusetts.
In a statement Paramount chief Brad Grey said:” Leonardo DiCaprio is among the most talented actors working today and Martin Scorsese is not just one of the world’s most significant filmmakers, but also a personal friend. Following a highly successful 2009, we have every confidence that Shutter Island is a great anchor to lead off our 2010 slate and the shift in date is the best decision for the film, the studio and ultimately Viacom.”[Source]
Leonardo DiCaprio’s highest opening record was $30 million for “Catch Me If You Can” in 2002, whereas Scorsese’s “The Departed” has $27 million for his 2006 chart-topper.
Paramount said the audience was split evenly by gender, a sign that DiCaprio has broadened from his strong female fan base. Mark Ruffalo and Sir Ben Kingsley co-star. Shutter Island marks fourth collaboration of the Leo and Scorses. Previous movies were “The Departed,” “The Aviator” and “Gangs of New York.”

Multi-Oscar winner Sean Penn who is famous for problems with paparazzi as much as he is famous for his top class acting. He has been charged with camera break and nice kick to a photographer in lose angeles on Friday.

Penn 49, will be arraigned March 22 on the two misdemeanor charges,He repeatedly kicked a photographer, and also breaking the photographer’s camera,” said Frank Mateljan, a spokesman for the office.If convicted he could face up to 18 months in prison.

The incident was recorded on a video and broadcasted on TMZ.com website.

Penn has several occasions where he has shown his repulsion at the paparazzi. The actor-director, who won best actor Oscars for “Milk” and “Mystic River,” is well known for his hatred over paparazzi from the days of his youth. Penn assaulted two photographers in Nashville, Tenn., in 1987 and received a suspended sentence  after pleading no contest.

He was also fined $1,700 and was on one year probation after punching a songwriter at a Silver Lake nightclub because he thought the songwriter kissed Madonna, his Wife at the time.
