LHC given another spin

The world’s largest particle accelerator will restart on Monday following a technical break this Saturday.

I am sure most of you remember antimatter from Dan Brown’s Angels and Demons. It was stolen from CERN and placed in St. Peters basilica in Rome. CERN has restarted mammoth machine to reveal the mysteries of universe once again. CERN intends to conduct experiments that will reveal new physics, including proving the existence of the Higgs boson, a hypothetical elementary particle. But unfortunately, LHC has not been able to run for long hauls.
LHC as a project had seen good and bad days. Its start was marked by a helium leak that forced to shut it down in 2008. It could not restart because of the various glitches. CERN undertook a $40 million program of repairs and improvements over 14 months to make machine ready for a retry at the end of November.Though it became the world’s most powerful particle accelerator when it was restarted in November. The collider performed almost flawlessly and provided scientists with valuable data in a month long run. “They learned a lot which they’ve gone away and digested, and now they’re trying to make adjustments,” Christine Sutton said. She is spokeswoman for CERN.
Machine had been under maintenance for last 10 weeks, lets see how long it lasts this time.
